Boris Johnson selected as Tory candidate for Uxbridge & South Ruislip
Whatever you think of him how is it possible for the London Mayor to potentially take on another full time job?

Can anyone who works for him in the Mayors office now announce they wont be in much as they have a second job?
But keep my full salary coming, please

Tory MPs will vote for the leader most likely to keep them in a job by winning an election. If that's Boris they'll swallow what little pride they have in no time.

As far as I am aware, the Tory MPs select two candidates who then go to the party membership to vote in the winner.
At the moment I would guess Theresa May will be one selected and either Boris or George Osborne the other. Of course if Cameron wins the election next May, there won't be a contest.

I've spoken to 3 different Conservitive MPs about Bozo the Mayor. They all said the same thing. MPs vote for the party leader and they can't stand Bozo so he has no chance of becoming the leader of the Consevitive party.

The mayor should be independent of the parties and not MPs, in my opinion.

Dori is a danger to his own party and more particularly Cameron. His designs on being leader are patently transparent and to be fair he may well prove to be a good party leader in opposition [ especially at PMQs ] . There is more to leading a country than being quick witted though because a leader needs substance. Doris lacks that.

People are genuinely taken with his comedic exterior and intellect [ than more so than Doris himself it seems ] but in a funny way if he gets to lead his party he will be a massive asset to non tories.

Guaranteed to get elected and will then get re-elected, no matter what he does. About as safe a Con seat as you can get, I'd imagine.

The people of Uxbridge who work at Heathrow, and the people whose jobs in the surrounding area depend on the airport, do not want Heathrow losing out to a third London airport. Doris' idea threatens this.

The people of Uxbridge don't want a 3rd runway at Heathrow.

It's no problem for Doris to fail at two tasks simultaneously rather than one at a time.

I am surprised at how the tories in Uxbridge have missed the fact that Doris wants their biggest local employer [ Heathrow ] to be superceded by a Thames airport.

Surely the same applies for any member of the cabinet.

Maybe he could be MP of two different constituencies then?

And is there no conflict of interest with the roles ... or will we see a doubling of bus services in the Uxbridge surrounds?

No different to someone being Chairman/CEO of 2 different large companies.

As long as one has the mental capacity it's not difficult.

At least its an admission that being an MP is a part time job

Jacques Chirac was Prime Minister of France and Mayor of Paris at the same time. And Ken Livingstone was an MP and Mayor for a year. Mayor of London is a bit of a non job anyway so he should cope.
